Wanted, Interior Opinion, Carpet or Not?

My '85 targa hot rod has a pretty-well stripped interior. All carpet - gone. Rear seats - gone. Console - gone. Shifter boot - gone. Factory seats - gone (now recaros). Appbiz door panels. Parchment shelf still intact. Rennline pedals, floorboards, tranny cover - installed, along with vintage walnut steering wheel and shifter. All business with a nice vintage feel.

I need to put some rear seats back in to cart the kids around a bit. Should I put the new rear seats directly on the painted body shell, or go thru the steps to run new carpets?? Are there gonna be heat issues for the kids in summer? I guess I could run dynamat, closed-cell foam, then carpet, then floor mats, but seems like a lot of work, weight, and formality for maybe no real reason. Can't I just glue the new seat bottom to the body shell, and tuck the carpets under the parchment shelf and call it a day?

Would love some thoughts on this. Thanks, Dave

If you are going to put carpeted floor mats in you might as well go with the rs/rsr perlon.
Nothing or all.

Just my personal opinion but the weight of a complete carpet set is not that much. It's not like you've stripped out everything that has significant weight, anyway. I think the car would look a lot better with carpet. It looks unfinished, as it is.

I put the RS carpet in mine but left the piece off the center tunnel. Gives a bit of the hot rod look but still covers the ugly stuff.

Do you have a build thread somewhere? I'm in the midst of hot ridding an 82 Targa.

I have the app biz rs style carpet awaiting install, I can vouch that it is very light. If you order, be sure to call as there are some differences in the carpet set for the targa vs the coupe.
