What is this part?
I need to replace this part on my 85 Targa. It is right below the fuel filter on the left hand side of the engine compartment. It is broken off and has an orange plastic center with a wire.
Please let me know if you can identify this……thanks, Johnhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1390714756.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1390714822.jpg |
That is the O2 sensor connector. They are known to break and crumble.
There is a user on here... Name escapes me right now... That makes a replacement. Edit: As soon as I can think of his name I will post it. By the way, the green wire is actually 2 wires in one. It is a shielded wire. The outer portion is grounded and acts as a shield for the low voltage signal carried from the O2 sensor to the ECU on the inner wire. There is also a myth that air is carried inside the wire but it's not. That may be true in other O2 sensors but not these. |
Contact Louie85, he still might have a replacement.

Louie85 got one to me over the holiday break for my SC. Worked great and he was a pleasure to deal with. That area is kind of a pain to work in though to strip the green wire etc in preparation for new plug. Get your Doan's back pills ready....

Excellent - thanks for the responses. I will order the part and replace it….John

OK - need some more help. Turns out that the oxygen sensor is fine. The piece that has crumbled and broken off is the male orange piece which the oxygen sensor black cap plugs into (on the lefthand side of the attached photo). I was ready to buy a new oxygen sensor assembly when I realized that the broken piece is actually the orange receptacle. I can't find the part on Pelican - is it not a Porsche part? It appears to be connected to a green wire which runs up to the cockpit?
Any help for me? |
That part is no longer available or maybe it only comes with a brand new harness. Either way, you can't get it. Send a PM to Louie85. He is the only one around that makes a replacement. By the way, the orange part was originally white. That's what age and a few thousand heat cycles will do.
The green wire on the end of your crumbled orange male connector goes to the ECU under your passenger seat. The wire is shielded. The outer wire is a ground wire that acts as a shield for the low voltage inner sensor wire. When you get the part from Louie, you need to trim back a little bit of the outer wire and put some shrink tube on it. Then you attach the inner wire to Louie's male connector. |
newk00 - Read the posts above! PM Louie85 for the part you need. My son had the same problem on his 85 Carrera and the Louie85 kit was the trick. Works great and is complete with all you need.

Louie85 makes a good part. I bought one and it is a perfect replacement.
