Transparency to show KMH on a MPH Speedo

Hi All,

Does anyone make a transparency or decal to put on the face of a MPH speedo so I can read the speed in KMH?

I have heard of Porsche supplying them in the past with UK supplied models but haven't actually seen one.

I know I can have the face converted but dont want to ssend the speedo to North Hollywood from here in Oz!

FYI I have a 150 MPH speedo but they are metric here in Oz.

Cheers

Bill you might get a source locally if you post in the Aussie section. I'll check with the guy who builds my car here and see if he knows anyone local here in Brisbane who can help you out.

Cheers Al

Al,
Posted in the Oz section as suggested but posts there are pretty thin on the ground.
I haven't visited there in a while I guess all of us over here should use it more often.
Thanks for the heads up.
Cheers
Bill

I sent an email off to Michael at Promotive who does all the upgrade work on my car. If anyone will have a source he should.

If it was me though I'd just bite the bullet and send them to North Hollywood, have a look at Fishcops build thread on here to see what he had done. He's local here in Brisbane and sent them over there and they are outstanding.

Use Ship2anywhere.com.au for really cheap shipping rates.

Will post again when I hear back from Michael.

Cheers Al

Having grown up during the metric conversion years in Canada with many non metric speedo cars, I just automatically multiply the posted metric speed by 0.6 for anything under 100kph in my head. The real conversion is 0.62.
I guess I really know my X6 multiplication table... :)

I would just try to make my own on the computer...print a sticker with the right numbers...clear with the appropriate color numbers...similar to this kit below...but a bit more custom.

Timmy2,

You are of course correct about the .6 (.62) multiplication and I have done this for many years both here in Oz and when I used to cross the channel when I lived in the UK.

I guess what with 40KMH. school and road work zones, variable speed limits and fixed speed limits that can be 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 and 110 (KMH) plus worrying about how accurate my speedo actually is I'd like to be able to see at a glance. The speed Nazi's here are well absolute Nazi's and my speed gets checked continually especially it seems when I am having fun in the P-car powering around a hairpin corner and thats not the best time to practice my times tables.

Are sat nav's more accurate than our speedo's mine shows consistently slower speed than my speedo.

My car is no garage queen but apart from the Prototipo it is completely original so don't really want to convert the face of the speedo plus we may return to the UK one day.

I did get a PM from a chap in Norway who says he has a product to do what I want but the picture he sent may be of a new face you put behind the glass rather than on the front , I will PM him back to clarify.

Till then 40=25, 50 =31, 60 =37, 70 =43, 80=50, 90=55, 100=62, 110=66....repeat!

Cheers

Bill

Lol,
Have you considered just swapping it out with a metric one. I've seen them occasionally pop up in the classifieds.
In Canada after they changed the speeds a lot of cars had clear background numbers stuck on their gauge faces. Just printed and stuck on in the appropriate place on the dial. Looked very cheesy...

Here is a version of an overlay from a 1970 911S. This photo is from the following posting regarding the Steve McQueen car on the 911S board.

Km to miles is pretty easy. Just drop the zero at the end and multiply by 6.

40 kph -> 4 km * 6 = 24 mph. Simple and quick.

Bill I've sent you a private message with some info from Michael at Promotive for you.

Cheers Al
