'88 911 Odd front suspension problem

I have a 1988 narrow body 911 Carrera with stock fuchs wheels. I have been having some vibration in the steering wheel at speed, which my mechanic says is an out of round tire - but the tire company says it is something else - maybe a bad wheel.

The odd thing is that when parking - either forward or back, when I turn the wheel to full lock, the left front wheel feels as if the wheel bolts are loose and the wheel is actually wobbling on the hub. At no other time do I get this feeling, only driving at barely a walking pace with the wheel turned full lock - either direction. I looked and the bolts are tight. Can anyone suggest what this might be and what to check? Wheel bearing? Control arm bushing? Steering rack?

Thank you,
Todd

Yup... if you jack up the car and can "wiggle" the wheel... Wheel bearing.. Yup, check tie-rod ends, ball joints, play in steering rack, rubber bushing up the steering rack,,,ect...

Start from wheel and work back all the way to the steering wheel... !

Should it be a wheel bearing or tie rod, you might consider a new mechanic.

As suggested above, start with a mechanic who knows about these cars and if it is to a point where the wheel is wobbling on the hub, then don't drive it until it is fixed.
