Washer Fluid Pump
I trying to my window and headlight washer system working. I'm not sure where to start looking for the problem. When I press the buttons, nothing seems to work. I don't even hear a pump working. I checked the obvious fuse and fluid. Questions
1. Is the pump the same for the window and headlights. 2. Would I hear the pump working when insdie the car. Any ideas on where to start?

On my '88 the pump is front left near the battery/condenser fan.
The pump is a work of art compared to the nearly disposable pumps on most other cars. I removed mine it wouldn't run. Took it apart cleaned it out and put it back together and it worked, but still wouldn't get water to the windshield. There are two small valves in the hoses near the squirters the driver's side is a small "T" while the passenger's side is an "L". Those needed replacing on my car ($2-3 a piece) and once they were replaced things worked fine.

If I remember correctly, the headlight washers on my '88 don't work unless the headlights are on.
Edit: BTW, Steve's right about the "T" and "L" connectors. They were clogged/frozen on my car too. Easy to test and fix. Hint: the original Porsche hose connectors are a pain to remove (If there's a trick, I never found it). I Dremeled them off and replaced them with some spring clamps from Home Depot Argo 88 Targa Last edited by Argo; 09-02-2002 at 05:43 PM.. |
