Is my headlight switch fried?

(1986 930 - 125,000 miles with OEM headlights)

The headlight switch has three positions:

1. OFF
2. Parking Lights
3. Parking Lights & Headlights

Pull mine to position 2, and the headlights come on! There is no difference between positon 2 & 3.

Since the turn signal/blinker assembly was replaced four years ago, I assume the headlight switch is now broken. Agree?

How hard is it to replace?

A follow-up question:

If I intend to upgrad to H4's in the near future, should I replace the switch with another type (that can handle higher wattage) or keep it OEM?

If you go to H4's I would recommend using relays for the lights. This thread should answer all your questions: H4 adding relay...where/how?

I am having electrical issues of a similiar sort with my 88 911 cab. I have a short where the parking light blinks with the blinker...and it shouldn't. I know I have a short, and it sounds like you do too! You ground wire from the parking light connects to the turn signal then connects to the headlight and then to the ground location at G106 in front of the battery. It sounds like you may have a short that is supply power from your parking lights or turn signals to your headlights. You might try to remove the fuses for all front parking lights and turn signals, and then pull your switch to the #2 position. if this cures it, you have a short...(i think). Then you have to start digging to find it!
