Post Spoilers???

I have a 1982 911SC. Was a chin spoiler and any kind of rear spoiler offered as a factory option during this year? Anyone have any pictures?

I beleive one could get the turbo tail and spoiler with a new SC. I don't think the Carrera tail was invented yet (the one on '84-'89 with the rubber lip).

1980 Weissachs Edition came with these as standard. Optional on other 911's.

This is the "carrera tail" I think of when someone say's "carrera tail", not the turbo tail used on the 84+ carrera's.

Here are a pair of closer shots I took the last time I heard this question.

No chin photos, but it's not a good idea to add the tail without the front and then go fast. With the drop in lift at the rear and no corresponding front-end improvements, the nose can get light at high speeds.

Actually island, this is yet another tail you are talking about. There is:

1. The 'turbo' tail, the one used on turbos with the rubber lip turned up.

2. The 'Carrera' tail, used on '84-'89 Carreras which is similar to the turbo tail but the lip is not turned up along the sides.

3. This 'Weissach' tail which is similar to #2 but predates it. I think it's the same tail as those used on very early turbos w/o intercooler????

The factory tail like mine existed as early as '73 when the 3.0l+whaletail cars were used for IROC that year. It looks just like the tail used on the Carrera RS 3.0 that was built for Gruppe 3 GT homologation in '74.

The early carrera tails like mine are one-piece fiberglass with the rubber lip turned up across the back whereas the 80s Carrera tails that I've seen are bolted onto a standard lid. Pelican shows a mounting seal for the tail to lid joint and lists it back to 78, Wayne might have some info about that.
