Post Targa again

Hi I took my front seal off to check the differences.

With NO SEAL my top fits PERFECT of course there are those large gaps on the sides, but along the top it fits excellent. When the seal is on there are large gaps at the front corners. Obviously my seal causes it to sit too high, I have trimed some of the seal away but I don't want to trim to much off.

It still doesn't make a diff?

I have read Dan Petchels article on trimming the seals but this is ridiculous.

How much more can come off?

Just needed to vent

Shawn

Hello,

Can you post a pic of where you trimmed the seal. I am having the same problems with the corners on my Targa. I also read the articles but still are a bit reluctant to start cutting without any pics of how its supposed to look afterwards

Shawn:

If you have edge gaps without the seals in then it is possible that the pins are not going in completely, your latches are not doing their job (though they can't influence the outside edges that much) or the plates that make up the Targa top are just plain bent.

Any difference with doors open? With the windows down?

Jw

EDIT: Just a tip here, but often the seal doesn't need to be trimmed, it just needs to be forced into the channel. Most folks think they have the seal in but they don't.

Hello

Maybe your roof is the problem. Is this the original roof coming with the car ?

Also the rubber on the A-pillar needs some time to seetle and also the rubberedges on the roof can be the problem.
Porsche had several versions over the years and not all combinations match. But the old rubbers are NLA.

The outher upper corners on the A-pillar are the thing who needs the most attention while working new parts on.

Hey guys thanks for the responses. I was actually just venting

Peter, once I get the seal trimmed more and the top back on in better shape I will get a pic of the seal. Have you read Dan Petchels article on trimming the seal? Very good.

Jdub I don't think the pins are going all the way in, the top is being stopped by the seal. No diff with doors or windows.

I have really tried to get the seal ALL THE WAY IN, but it won't go more thats why I do believe this has to be trimmed.

Roland I think the roof is OK, I took measurements of the top and of the "holes" in the car, they are pretty close, plus it was rebuilt 2 years ago, not the best job but good.

I agree on the corners being the problem though but it is all the top too.
