A sticky problem

....hmmmm how do I explain, I just knocked my rear vision mirror off the winscreen (doh!)

Is it best to use silicon or superglue to stick it back on?

Just don't ask how? http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/hide.gif

I've alway used the glue that is available at any auto parts store, They have some that is designed for your problem. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...oilet_claw.gif

Go to Pep Boys or any parts store that sells the rear view mirror glue kit. That works well provided that you clean the two opposing surfaces first before applying.

Thanks Guys, I'll go hunt some of that down.

The windshield installer used a thin two sided tape. It worked for about nine months. I then tried super glue and it worked until it got very hot. Then I tried the adhesive sold at the autoparts store. It wasn't meant for glueing the rubber base of the rearview mirror to glass, but rather for glueing a metal "button" to the glass. It didn't hold at all. Next I tried a two-part epoxy. It seems to be doing the job, but it's only been two weeks.

Thanks guys the glue worked a treat.

One week later the mirror fell off again. This time the cast tongue that slides into the circular mount (now firmly stuck to the screen) has broken from the mirror mount arm.

I tried to superglue the cast metal, it lasted a week, is there any glue that will stick this, or is it time for a new one.

Does anyone have an 86 rear vision mirror that they would be prepared to sell?

Perhaps invest in a ball bearing torus neck installation?

Maybe some JB Weld to fix the broken MetalCast..

I use stock pad, then a hair dryer to heat glue on pad after it is on windshield. Before "hair dryer" tech. it was a new pad every year. Still waiting for it to fall after 4 years.

Revising this thread.....rearview mirror came off.

I was driving my 75 Carrera yesterday and for no apparent reason, the rearview mirror came off. I did a search and this thread came up which is pretty old (2001). It does reference several types of adhesives which were not very successful. It also referenced a part from our host to glue the mirror back on. Does anyone have experience in this?

Please let me know.
