to do list, help please!
I have a (new to me) 81 sc with 118K on it. The motor and tranny are out, and I would like a list of all the repairs/replacements I should do that are best done, or can only be done, with those big pieces out of the way. I don't have access to a lift, so it's a good time to take them on.
I am starting with the gas lines, clutch cable, flapper boxes and cables. Thanks! |
The "triangle of death" comes to mind, very easy with the engine out.
Also the 2 speed sensors and the CHT sensor as their casing is probably crumbling apart. As part of the slippery slope now would be a good time to replace the rear suspension bushings, rear wheel bearings, and possibly the rear shocks. All of this is much easier with the engine/transmission out. |
This will keep you busy... :)

I forgot to mention the rubber brake lines as a good subject for replacement.
One of the best pieces of advice I received early on from this forum was to replace everything rubber.;) |
Triangle of death - always good to address. Make sure the air box has a pop-off valve (if not, then install one). Sure mucho easier to do a valve adjustment with the engine is on the bench. Just sayin'...
