to do list, help please!
 

I have a (new to me) 81 sc with 118K on it. The motor and tranny are out, and I would like a list of all the repairs/replacements I should do that are best done, or can only be done, with those big pieces out of the way. I don't have access to a lift, so it's a good time to take them on.

I am starting with the gas lines, clutch cable, flapper boxes and cables.

The "triangle of death" comes to mind, very easy with the engine out.
Also the 2 speed sensors and the CHT sensor as their casing is probably crumbling apart.
As part of the slippery slope now would be a good time to replace the rear suspension bushings, rear wheel bearings, and possibly the rear shocks. All of this is much easier with the engine/transmission out.

I would seal the "triangle and replace the vent hoes that goes from the breather to the oil tank. As far as the reference sensors and CHT, the SC's didn't have them.

Cool, I didn't know that as the Carrera is my first 911.:cool:

I forgot to mention the rubber brake lines as a good subject for replacement.
One of the best pieces of advice I received early on from this forum was to replace everything rubber.;)

Triangle of death - always good to address. Make sure the air box has a pop-off valve (if not, then install one). Sure mucho easier to do a valve adjustment with the engine is on the bench. Just sayin'...
