Does my 915 have wevo? how do i know?

Iīm about to sell my 915, and i donīt know where to price it.
I have always thought that i had a wevo because of the noisy 5 gear, but now that iīm trying to find out , i see that many 915 in general have noisy fifths .
The transmission feels very tight and barely ever grind (only sometimes from fourth to third) Iīm also wondering if there is a way to see if i have a LSD without opening the trannsmission?
I bought my car with a tuned 930 engine 400bhp+ and the add said it was a moddified 915 transmission.
Never done any burnouts with it, but on wet road the rear end always wants to go sideways when i floor it.

I would guess i have LSD and wevo , but guessing isnīt enough when iīm selling.

Should i dare open the transmission? is it safe?, or do i have to adjust it again if i do?

What do you mean by "Wevo?" That is just the company's name that makes parts. They make several parts for 915s; shifters, gate shift kit, couplers, bearing retainers, etc.

For LSD, jack the back up and turn one wheel by hand, or if it's out, turn one axle flange. If it's a Limited slip diff, both wheels will turn the same direction, if not, they will turn opposite.

Thank you for the answer on the LSD :) Gate shift kit is what makes the 915 tight isnīt it? The reason i think i have it is that i have tried other 915 transmissions, and they feel like looking for a needle in a hay stack finding a gear compared to mine. The gear stick travell is still long between gears though, no short shift i guess. Looks like iīll have to open it, but i donīt realy want to :P

Wevo does make a gate shift kit that is installed inside the 915 tranny and would give you more straightforward movement from gear to gear. They cost like $900 US in addition to installation so it's a nice upgrade.

Many times the vagueness in a 915 is caused by old parts. A new coupler, ball cup and shift rod bushing will often help make a 915 feel tight.

Unless you have proof of the gate shift being installed, I would assume you just have a nice stock transmission that shifts as it should.

Wevo gears would be dog box, no synchros. If you don't have a dog bog it is no Wevo. Doesn't mean it hasn't been regeared. Might still have special ratio gears in it, though if it was mated to a 930 it would most likely best suited to that specific engine. Gearing is not a one size fits all thing.

as you say Scooter, it might just be a nice 915 but i know itīs been modified for my engine, and i want to know what i am selling. Matt Monson are you sure the 915 Gateshift Kit needs to be dog gears? i canīt find anywhere it says that ?

Another thing i forgot to mention is that in neutral my shifter always stays firm between fourth an fifth, and i need to push it like itīs a spring somewhere to the left when engaging first and second.

Maybe you just have a Wevo shifter? What you describe could easily be an aftermarket shifter like Wevo.

Madsimilius 02-04-2014 09:52 AM

Your right , iīs starting to lean against a seine systems shifter. Iīll have a look at it tomorow. The transmission is not fast like a modern transmission , just very tight compared to a usual 915.

Can i easily open the transmission to have a look without messing something up? The transmission is going out tomorrow anyways.

I have a wevo shifter in my car.

In addition, my transmission also has the internal wevo gate. here is a picture showing the shiny new external plate that was installed as part of that kit. The real goodies are inside.

After you drain the oil, you can remove the shift fork plate. It's the squarish plate on the bottom with four 13mm nuts. You'll just need a new gasket to reinstall it. When that's off, you can check to see if it has a bearing retainer or gate shift kit.

Since you are selling a 915 that was coupled to a 930 engine you might want to price it as "free" since it is likely to grenade on the new owner in short order! :p

Madsimilius 02-05-2014 03:53 AM

hehe, i get you point Ronnie, but i must say iīve been careful (no standing starts, burnouts or fast shifts) So Wayner is that external plate a different from the porsche plate? Does that mean that i only need to look for that? Or else it has to come of like theFONZ says. thank you again!

One more thing, do i need new driveshafts and cv joints for the new 930 transmission if iīm keeping my 911 sc trailing arms?

Matt Monson 02-05-2014 06:01 AM

Yes, you can look for just the plate. If it is original Porsche it will be cast and have a Porsche casting number on it.

You SC axles are likely 100mm. 930 used 108mm. But they are both fine spline and interchangeable at the gearbox. You might already have turbo cvs if whomever did the swap was looking for max strength. I would advise going over to the 108mm parts if they are not already on there. That would mean new cvs.
