Help diagnose suspension squish sound
Hi all
87 Coupe with 106k, bought it at 100k. I'm getting a squishy creaky noise when I go over bumps that result in significant weight transfer. I don't hear anything unusual when I drive over a rutted road. Shocks feel good when I push the car down on each corner, no rebound bounce. Suspension rubber is of unknown age and some looks a bit cruddy. Lets presume its original or close to. Engine was recently out for a top end, but the only suspension piece I touched was removing the rear sway bar. So far as I can tell this noise is mostly coming from the back, but hard to be sure. Sooner or later I'll do bushings but I'm trying to get my head around what would cause this noise. Thanks

Are your spring plate bushings still concentric with the Tbars and spring plate covers? With 100K+ miles your bushing are most likely egg shaped.
Look at where the torsion bar goes through the outer spring plate cover....if there is more rubber showing below the Tbar than above, you most likely need to replace the spring plate bushings. I just did mine saturday. |

Should add - for 2 mos during my motor rebuild I had the car jacked up WAY high at the rear, putting a lot of weight on the front wheels. Would this hasten the degradation of any of the f suspension bushings?

The sound is normal. Not anything to worry about, but check the gap around the torsion bar cover plate (#29).
