Crankase vent Switch/Sensor/
What is this switch on top of my crankase vent. I will post a photo in a bit, but I was just wondering.
I have a 2.7 built on 7R cases and the crankase vent where the big hose comes out has a 2 connector sensor or switch. What does it do? I know where my oil pressure sender is locate, and the oil tem sender, and the oil pressure switch, but what does this thing do. It does have a rubber cover and 2 wires with spade connectors hooked to it. I am just curious as to what the heck it is for. Cooler fan switch? |
What is first serial munber of your engine and crankcase vent might 2.4L.

On a 3.2 Carrera that switch turns on the aux fan in the engine bay at some specified "hot" temperature to aid in cooling. -J

You are describing the thermo-time switch. Its the same switch for carbureted (zenith), mfi, and cis cars, It closes a circuit (to ground) when the engine is below a certain temperature (the thermo component), engaging a cold start enrichment mechanism. It heats itself upself as soon as the ignition is switched on (the time component), so the enrichment doesn't last very long. It was located on the crankcase breather cover for carbs and mfi, but moved to the left chain housing cover for the cis cars ( to avoid physical interference with the air box).
