Seat recovering

Hello!

I need to have a seat recovered. Nothing really helped in the archives. A couple of questions I have:

1. Should I get both done so they match?
2. How can I find a place that can do a good job?
3. What kind of questions do I ask the shop?
4. Is the factory material available?
5. Ballpark $'s?

And of course anything else that might help.
Thanks!
BK

Brian, nice set of sport seats. They will work great in that 73 tub of yours. btw, how is the front pan coming along?

I don't know of anyone other than in CA that will recover these seats. I have started looking to get mine done. So far prices are high, about $700/vinyl - $1000/leather and thats per seat. ouch!

so is that what you sit in to get your living room track time? dig that slot car setup.

$950 a set? WOW! That's more than I paid for the seats! I guess I'll just use black electrical tape! Just kidding, sort of.

The pan is completely cut out of the 73 but I haven't started welding in a new one yet. Too many projects going on! And the slot cars are pretty fun. You can't see the cars but they are GT1's. Only safe place to drink and race!

Still looking for ideas...

Thanks!

Hey, you do get what you pay for (hopefully)- I'll bet if you shop around locally you will find someone to do it for less. I would just go ahead and get the leather!

There probably is a local shop that can be trusted, and reasonable, but you'll have to ask the local car guys who that is. They know. AdamNitti's dad does this...Adam is a Board Member.

I redid one of my seats. I just replaced the backing and re-sewed it. Had a shop do the sewing. I used the old pieces as templates to fab the new pieces. If I'd had a hide, I could have just replaced everything but the pad. If you have the time, then take one apart, cut replacement pieces and take it all to a shop to have it sewn.

Like Superman I am a do it yourself kind of guy. However, the last time I sewed anything was in 7th grade home ec. And I wasn't any good at it then!

Like suggested I will ask some of the local PCAers and see if anybody has any leads. If not, maybe I'll just install one seat!

Worse case I send them out as Sam recommended. The seats on Ebay were gorgeous.

Try Autos International in Escondido, CA. They work on lots and lots of porsche cars. When I was there a few weeks ago, there must have been about 25 pcars being restored. Lots of 356's that were being fully restored from the ground up.

I had my wives Z3 driver seat fixed for $120.00. She had a tear on the side of the seat similar to yours (not nearly as bad). Auto's International replaced the entire section of material and piping and did a great job. Very happy with the results. If all you need is the black pieces replaced, this may be a way to go. If not, they may be able to provide a name of a local shop in your area.

Ask for Tony.

BK,

Could you pls let me know if you ever find the same black and white fabric? I had a set like this and loved them but finding the old style fabric was difficult.

Would love to recover some now using the same stuff...

Thanks for all the info. If I do find any of the fabric I will post the info. My fabric is dirty but in decent shape so I might just try to clean it up and have the bolsters repaired.
