911 with 993TT conversion, Night Lightning Part II
 

Ok, boys and girls, got a little behind in trying to update the last forum post, so here is part 2 on the build.

The last posts were showing some shots of the interior and this is where we will start.

This is a shot with the filler panels on both sides of the center sections. We will be beadrolling a diamond pattern on these panels.

Finally found a correct steering wheel that the client had requested. He and I both agreed that we would sprinkle some vintage correct Porsche parts here and there, and I think this steering wheel fits the theme perfect.

Being that we've left little space for even a rat to live, we had to come up with a place the stereo amp and the engine computer. There will be a cover made for these with a trap door for removal if necessary.

Now to make a 996TT crank with the factory ECU, and not using the immobilizer. This requires some one with a "Bob", break out box. Many of you may know a Porsche wizard in my neck of the woods, goes by the name of Howard Freeman. He gets credit for making this crank without the immobilizer.

After Howard did his thing with his Bob, she fired right up!! As of now, we are planning on simply putting some turnouts on the pipes and not putting any mufflers. I think the cats tame the sound enough at idle, but when you mash on it, she sounds pretty impressive.

After getting her cranked and the engine all secured, it's time to start the almost final mockup stage and actually run her down the street for a shake down run. First, to get all the sheet metal set up.

A little homemade bracket to hold the T fitting at the front behind the rack and pinion. We built a new box and bracing for the Tilton pedals.

Now we're getting ready to actually try to drive this thing. Murphy's law is in full bloom down here in the South, this is what we ran into...

Spacing it out a bit helps...can't go too far because the shock will hit the upper shock turrets...

So, we are going to drop back and punt on this one, gotta rethink this. After getting the weight of the car on it, the angle changes just enough for it to clear, just a little bit. So we decide to go ahead with the test run.

After getting to the end of my drive way, I had to back her back in. Something is making a racket back there....

OK, now I've really got rethink all this. I will show in posts to come how I overcame this, but this has become the most stressful part of the build. You measure and measure and mock up and tear down, and you still have problems when the rubber meets the road. It's all part of custom car building, and sometimes you have to just back up, rethink, re-plan, and attack the problems another day. With this being said, and other issues, I had to take a few weeks off of working on her.

Wish both threads were together. It's a lot to process..hope u work through this.

OK, does anyone know how to merge these two threads together? I guess I should have just started where I left off on the other thread. Mods? Anyone?

I have a 73 w/ a993tt motor, your going to love it!
