take a heat torch and get them REALLY hot and spray wd-40 on them. then try to take off with vice grips. if it dont work then just saw them off and replace the bolts.

The shop I used had to chisel them off. Hopefully the stainless replacements with antiseize compound won't give me the same trouble.

Jim- I have recently installed a cat test pipe, and replaced my cat so I do have 1st hand experience.
First- If you have access to a lift it is much easier- remove the left rear wheel as well. Soak your bolts in liquid wrench or a similiar product. WD40 may work as well. I had to hit the bolts 4-5 times- you want to tap the bolts w/ a wrench which will help the fluid to spread after each soaking. If you have not already done it, be sure to buy new bolts and gaskets first! ------------------ 87 Carrera Cabriolet |
Drill a 1/4" hole through nut and screw, twist it off with wrench. Replace with new screws and nuts.

Forget about penetrating oil, snake oil, and mid-nite oil. Just cut the bastards off with a Dremel and cut-off disc. And the rstoll drill method works great too. Have a nice sharp cold chisel handy, along with Mr. Hammer...sometimes the bolts are so rusted, you can just knock the heads clean off.
Use Never-Seez on new bolts. S.S. not nessesary (or even desirable) over regular Grade 5 fasteners. ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website |
