Cleaned out oil cooler #1, #2, now tank -- they want to charge me what?!

Guys,

Need some advice here. I have reached out to a local highly rated oil tank repair/oil cooler repair shop - Loopers Auto Service.

They did a pretty nice job for me cleaning and pressure testing my engine oil cooler (cost me 100 bucks) and my Auxiliary 28 row brass cooler (cost me an another 100 bucks). Now they are asking me for $145 to clean out my oil tank. It does not look dirty (nowhere nearly as dirty as the coolers were). To me it sounds quite ridiculous… what do you guys think? what should that cost? has anyone cleaned out the insides of their oil tank yourself?

Thanks!
Paul

I'd say a hundie for all 3 is more like it. Did they have to remove them all, or did you bring them in?

I had my oil tank cleaned locally (hot-tanked) for ~$45, but had to strip it and then paint it myself afterward.

I paid ~$125 per cooler at Pacific Oil Cooler for the full overhaul - and it was worth it.

I used Loopers a few years ago to clean my AC condensers. I thought they were VERY expensive, and they did not even bother to straighten the cooling fins. I pointed out the fins, and the guy just shrugged, and then took my money. VERY disappointing.

I did not get an estimate, as they were recommended on another forum, and because of that I assumed they were a straight shooting, honest business. My mistake, never again.
