Anyone know how to remove the wire plug from the Mass Air Flow Sensor?
 

I figured I'd post this in the general 911 forum since there isn't much traffic over in the 996/997 section . . .

I have a 997.1 with the x51 carbon fiber air box, and I am trying to change the air filters. However I can't seem to disconnect the wire connector that plugs into the Mass Air Flow sensor on top. There has to be a simple trick to it, but so far the solution is eluding me. The housing is made out of cheap plastic, so I didn't want to force the issue. Anyone have any ideas? I fiddled with it for 15 minutes with no success before I figured it was time to stop and ask for help from the forum guys. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Well I finally figured it out. It's a 3-step process. You have to push down on the wire plug first (to relieve pressure on the side tab), then you push the side tab in, then you pull the wire plug off. Glad I didn't force it, because it's really on there. I can't imagine what a new one of these costs.

Same plug that I have on my 2002 Jetta TDI on the MAF sensor. I didn't do the 'push down' step and ruined the detent tab. It's now (and for the past 140,000 miles) held in place by a zip-tie around the whole assembly - replaced every 10,000 miles for the filter change procedure.
