Oil lines from thermostat back

I don't think I've worked on anything more frustrating on my car than these oil lines. They are on now, and I hope they don't leak, but I could not get them oriented to save my life. Turn one in one direction and it was too far from the other and wouldn't fit in the bracket above rear wheel, turn the other another way, etc.

Thought I had it all done and went to connect the line to the tank and it seems about 1/2 too short. Is it that taught of a fit? I got it on, but it's slightly concerning.

Porsche Crest

Welcome to the world of the Porsche 911.

This must be one of the original oil hoses going to the front cooler on your 911SC. All rubber dries out & shrinks w age. I am surprised this hose does not leak at its fitting like most.

Writing is on the wall. Look for oil leaks soon.

No, these were brand new lines. From the thermostat back to tank and engine.

I'll snap a pic in a bit.

Mine was short too. Brand new line, thermostat to cross-over pipe (stock exhaust SC).

I ended up using my old line and getting a hose shop to replace the flexible line (re-using the original fittings), fit fine and no leaks.

Todd,

What you might try is to connect both ends, just snug up the fitting. Set the line in place with the orientation you need and clap it down to the tub with the clamp and stud. Snug-up the fitting on the thermostat side with the wrench (tight fit I know). once "more snug" remove the clamp from the tub, undo the connection at the tank, drop the line and thermostat down and tighten. They should be where you need them.

I had gotten it all connected, it was just one of the most frustrating tasks I've done yet on my car. Starting it tomorrow for the first time in a year. Hopefully no leaks!!
