Where do install an engine light

I recently bought an engine light and wiring harness for my '72 911. I thought it would be nice to have some light in the engine bay. This light has a porsche part number but I cannot figure out where it mounts and the where the wiring haress connects. Any clues our there?

Here is mine on a 930 tail. Comes in handy when I add a quart every 200 miles.

Thanks for the great pictures. My only question is where do you connect the wiring harness? Is there another constant 12V wire that goes up the hinge to the light? My wiring harness in the picture has a plastic connection. Where is the other end of this connection?

Thanks,

Jon

If you have the fuse block (3 fuses) on the left side of the engine bay, one of them is always hot. Use the light as a tester. The hood should be grounded. Then run the wire up to the left hood hinge by the ground strap, then inside the bay to the fuse block. Do you have the contact button with the connector ? i.e. when you open the hood the light comes on ..

If your hood is grounded you only need to run one wire (hot) to the fuse block. The ground wire can be connected anywhere.

On my SC, the engine light will not come on unless the parking or headlights are on. I believe this is per the owner's manual. Probably won't be an issue if you wire it HOT, just don't forget to rotate the light cover to turn it off when finished.
