Wiring harness

My friend is looking at a 94 325i, by the way this is just a general question and no one is home on the BMW side. It looked pretty good but had a problem. The A/C may or may not have quit working but the only known info is that it smelled like it was insulation burning. To make the story short it blew the fuse. This old owner put a bigger fuse in it and bigger. It melted the whole harness in the engine compartment. To me i'm sure it sounds like a giant headache. But I thought I just ask what you guy think. What is a ballpark on the cost of a new harness and installation?

Why don't you price out a new harness and then add $500 labor.

My guess is $1000

What do I win?

Thanks, Blown for responding. I figure your some what right. I'm curious as to what kind of dammage other componets could have recieved from this problem. Maybe a computer or something. All the wiring in the front of the car to the ignition melted together. I've always herd electrical probs can be a nightmare. If there ever was one this looks like it. I'm just trying to figure out if it is at all salvageable for such a low price $4500. It has like new interior good body and 65000 miles. One in good shape with 85000 miles should be $8000-$10000.

Offer them $2500 and walk away. That sounds like more damage than I thought. $$$$$
