Thank god for porsche

I went to a car show 2 1/2 hours from home with a friend on sunday. Only one problem. We went in his AC Cobra replica. Those cars are beautiful to look at. As far as a 2 1/2 hour ride I was suffering after 15 minutes! The air temp was 90 and the warm air was rushing up from under the dash, the sun was beating on my face and I didnt even have a place to put my arm. The side pipes sound great for about 1/2 hour then air plugs are in order. If you were to get in a 25 mph accident in a car like this you would be dead. IMO this is a nice car to see at a show, standing still and quiet! Thats why I say THANK GOD for porsche.

Brian:

That is too funny. I've always loved P-cars, but was about ready to build a Cobra. My wife talked me into my new '84 Carrera, as she is still recovering from me building an airplane that I finished earlier this year.

Not only am I happy in retrospect due to the fact that I actually get to drive the Porsche, while I go through it (mild restoration), but I've thought more than a few times that the Cobra would only be good for quick trips to the store and such.

Yeah, but in a 427 Cobra, even a replica, if you needed that 1/2 gallon of milk quickly? I could dig it...

WOW. . .you finished an airplane AND still have a wife . . . that talk you in to a 911!
That's about the most impressive thing I've read in a while. Those things usually don't go hand in hand. You should be damn happy in retrospect.

Couldn't agree more... I owned a Cobra for a while. Took it to the track and the thing had so much sheer grunt that if you wanted to go faster, you just changed up a gear!! Stopping and going around a corner were somewhat more character building.

Days later, cruising down a local suburban street with my 6yr old daughter on board - simply blipped the throttle and the damned thing turned around. Then I got home (still shaking) and my 3 yr old son brushed past the side pipes and burnt his leg.

Sold it the next day - bought DDR and couldn't be happier.

Yep, never worry about it being classified as a "chick" car.

Comparison post coming:

I rode a motorcycle once - my hair was a mess, The engine was hot, the weather was cold. Thank God for Porsche.

I drove a Camry the other day - couldn't hear the engine, it was slow, I almost lost it going around a corner at the same speed I usually try to go in my P-car. Thank God for Porsche.

I rode my bicycle the other day - if a car hit me at 25MPH I would be dead. Thank God for Porsche.

I rode in a 550 Spyder the other day - Those cars are beautiful to look at. As far as a 2 1/2 hour ride I was suffering after 15 minutes! The air temp was 90 and the warm air was rushing up from under the dash, the sun was beating on my face and I didnt even have a place to put my arm. The carbs and exhaust sounds great for about 1/2 hour then air plugs are in order. If you were to get in a 25 mph accident in a car like this you would be dead. IMO this is a nice car to see at a show, standing still and quiet! Thank God for ....

Some cars qualify only as 20 minute cars.
After 20 minutes, you have had enough!
Cobras, both original and replica are in this category.
Other cars are in the all day driving category, but you might not want your friends seeing you in them!!LOL
A man can get down the road on a bicycle...but that only gets you down the road.
A Porsche can get you down the same road...in STYLE...that's the difference.

I suppose I could sit on my computer all day and call that a chick magnet but then again, nah! Robert at your age and with your good looks, chicks should be the least of your worries.

Yeah, and that's titanium, not steel. Brad the Welder at Moots is an artist. Rivendell is definitely old school (cromo), but their torch work and the paint of Joe Bell is amazing...

I'm with you Nos,there is some amazing artistry
that goes into high end bike frames. Although
I do tend to favor Italian frames and Columbus
tubes.

Wow, those lugs remind me of the Nervex (was that the name?) chrome lugs on my 1975 Schwinn Paramount P13 road racer. Reynolds 531, Campagnolo/Cinelli components .... ah, those were the days .... I short-sightedly sold it many years ago and, of course, now they are highly collectible!! -- Curt

That welding is awesome!

You guys have probably seen that Sprite commercial with the "Low-Rider" pushbikes? Even though you'd never see them where I come from, I thought they looked fantastic!

"That welding is awesome!"

I bought a welder recently and have been (and I use the term VERY loosely) welding a duck blind together the last few weekends. Haven't welded anything in many years, so I have a real appreciation for the talent that takes. UnBelievable!!! -- Curt
