Can you help me ID these pistons & cylinders
I recently purchased this 1972 911E. A cardboard box with full set of pistons & cylinders was included. Previous owner is a little eccentric, still working through the possible scenarios. As you can see in one pic, unfortunately #3 cylinder is missing a chunk - can't be good news. Does not look like any cam tensioner upgrades were done - car not on the road since 1994 - before internet forums! Bought from 2nd owner of 34 years.
Opinions welcome. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Cook&Dunning; 02-28-2014 at 03:44 PM.. |

Pors1968 - Thank you for confirming the 2.4 E. Is there a way of determining production / manufacturing date? are there other markings?

Triangle 5 is the height and if you clean the piston you should see a number for the size like 0 or 1 and i think your is 3.

![]() Thank you for the info provided - some oven cleaner on the damaged piston confirmed the number 3 on piston head. Also below that the number 110 over stylised M over 045 I have sold the car. So I have a set of pistons and cylinders from a 72E presumably replaced because of a cam tensioner failure. Should they go to the new owner who is restoring car - he has the complete engine with new P's & C's - or is it fair just to sell them? Any opinion on value if I were to sell?
