Can I "Hot tank" my SSIs?

My SSIs are absolutely filthy - lots of oil caked on inside and out.
I have no idea how I would go about cleaning the inside of the heater boxes by hand, so I was wondering, can stainless be hot tanked safely? Seems like a reasonable way to get them clean, as long as the cleaning solution doesn't consume them.

I am sure it would work great, not sure if the chemicals they use discolor stainless. I would call and ask the shop you want to do the work

Dirty SSI exhausts

The SSI exhausts on my SC were filthy. I used some bio degradeable parts cleaner and some spray on brake cleaner and a variety of scrubbing pads to clean them up. Of course, that was only on the outside. I'm not sure that I would want the caustic hot tank chemicals inside the heater boxes!

Ask a local radiator shop if their tank solutions are compatible. Many coolant radiator cores are aluminum with similar concerns.
