How the heck do I separate these??
Started to take the front suspension apart yesterday, and quickly ran into a bit of a problem - how do I separate these two pieces?
http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate.../suspapart.jpg According to all litterature I have, separating these two shouldn't be a problem, but there was no way I could get the tie rod out - and it was a challenge to get it all off the car in one piece http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/nuts.gif . What did I do wrong? (by the way - the nut just sits on the bolt so I won't loose it - I DID take it off initially.. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/biggrin.gif ) The other side is still on the car - it won't come loose either. ------------------ 1972 911S Targa (with 1982 3.0L drivetrain) ************************ My project! You need either a "crow's foot" or pickle fork tool and a mallet, or the dedicated "tie-rod puller" tool which works great, but will cost you $75-$100.

since you have it out, take it by any friendly shop, and they can pop it right off.

a sharp wack or two with a large ballpeen hammer will pop it out. looking at the picture, hit it on the end of the arm that comes off the strut. that would be 3 0'clock in your picture. this squeezes the tapered pin out of the hole. it's been done this way since the beginning of time. we're talking a hard, SHARP wack. on the end, not the side.
