Hi guys,
I pulled out my space saver spare the other day in an effort to clean up various bits and pieces before having my car returned from the Auto-electricians. First thing I did was inflate it. The tire is in fairly good order, there is one minor functional problem and this is that the pump valve leaks air. Its not so bad, and if I put the little cap on its stops but I can imagine that under the weight of the car it would be a lot worse. So I don't know how to go about fixing that. Some tire black worked wonders on the actual rubber and that looks fine. Then there are the cosmetic issues. There is some rust that has come up on the top side, it is surface rust that has come through the paint. Its in specks and its only on one side. Should I simply attack this with some wire brushes or actually treat it with rust removal chemicals. Some other stains which Autosol metal polish took care off, but there are still scuffs and some deeper stains that I can't take out. Is it possible just to treat the rust and stains and then respray the tire. If so, what kind of paint did Porsche use? (or rather Goodrich who made the tire)? Any suggestions? Thanks! |
