barrel nut found

While pulling the #2 spark plug wire I heard something rattle. Reached in and pulled out a barrel nut void of a stud. Have not pulled the valve cover yet but assuming I don't find pieces of the stud is it okay to just torque the old nut back on or do I need a new barrel nut?

I chased my barrel nuts with a tap and reused them, during my rebuild. If the stud is still there, I say put the barrel nut back on, torque them all down to 25 lb/ft and drive.

If the threads are still ok, just reuse it. I would check the torque on the rest of the head studs.

Mine had 2 nuts spun all the way off and floating around the spark plugs and the rest on the left side loose. Re-torqued successfully (without pulling the studs), and still going strong.

Okay, thats what I will do, thanks. Re-torque and drive.

I have not found a washer though. It must be floating around in there somewhere. If I need to replace am I going to ba able to use a generic washer or do I need to order one and delay getting back to driving?

The washer you're looking for is probably wedged between two fins on the head, in the hole it was in. It is a fairly thick washer, and you'll want to use something similar in thickness.
