X-country trip...starter issues

I've just finished the move from Lafayette Indiana to San Luis Obispo California (2200 miles in 3 days). The only preventative maintenance I did was a new fan belt. Pretty good for a 20 year old car.

The only issue was when I stopped at noon in the Mojave. It was very hot (oil temp about 105 C) outside -- duh. On the restart, I turned the key and got no response (no noise at all) from the starter. After waiting 5 minutes...it worked and I went on my merry way. Everytime since, it has worked.

This happened 5 years ago in the Bonneville salt flats (but the starter never worked again). I replaced the starter with a Bosch reman unit. Am I looking at replacing it again? Or, is there some way to dissassemble it and fix it?
