My nomination for the Award..

..For the most tenuous use of the word "Porsche" on a product

Can someone explain to me why is a Porsche Toaster worth $250.00?!

It makes, toast, right? That's all? No improved gas milage, better handleing? Adjusts Valves in a single push?

So basically you're paying $250.00 to accomplish something that could be done with a 59 cent bic lighter and a few sticks?

EBAY Toaster

Just wondering...

Chuck

I've also noticed that there are Porsche designed computer monitors. Yeah, they look neat, but so what?

Of course, if you're using an iMac, you might buy into the whole looks over functionality thing.

I think that one uses a DME to control toasting. I'm holding out for an earlier CTS (Continuous Toasting System) model. I think I found one in Nebraska, but the owner won't do a PPI...

NoStatic - don't even consider buying one of these without the all important "Post Prandial Inspection".

Its actually a natural extension of the Cayenne Minivan/Station Wagon project. I think the toaster is listed in the Cayenne Accessories brochure.

Its seems ridiculous, but I guess if you HAVE to have a toaster, it might as well be a Porsche, right?

You might make fun of it, but it will go from 0-Extra Crispy faster than a 996.

Everyone eats toast. As long as the toaster helps keep Porsche afloat (Porsche is on the verge of bankruptcy, right?), I'm all for it.

I have two kids, and I NEED a fast toaster.

I am going to withhold judgment on the toaster until I can see it in person.

Porsche Toaster

It better not be water-cooled!

More SCWDP (Somewhat Charred World Domination Plot) bollocks. Search the Pelican Porsche Appliance Forum archives for info on earlier Mechanical Toast Induction. This used a sensitive but highly effective system of pulleys, space cams, and plungers to draw the bread right out of the bag, toast it, and deliver it to all the place settings at your breakfast table. This system delivers the best toast response if you can get it adjusted right. I believe Warren has an extensive archive of information on repairing the electronics of the controllers for these toasters.

Ah, but it does more than just make toast.

This auction is for a Toastmaster Toaster Desinged by F. A. Porsche. This toaster is brand new in the box. The features are:
1)Bun/Croissant warming rack, 2)Push button 11 stage browning controls. 3)Automatic self-adjusting bread slot. 4)Extra wide
slot. 5)Soft lift-up-slow quiet bread carriage. 6)Auto off feature, Toaster switches off if accidentally tilted.

The reviews I read about this toaster were great. It is simple to use and clean-up is a breeze. Items that Toastmaster has had
designed by Porsche are hard to come by. Items that are never removed from their boxes are even harder to find.Retail on this
was $250.00

Now that's what I call a toaster on steriods.

I'm not buying one unless it's already got oil presure feed cam chain tensioners. No way do I want it to drop a bit of toast.

Finally - a subject I can comment upon with some authority. Here are some little-known facts about Porsche Toasters:

The 87 series suffers from premature toast guide wear, and I won't get into the sealing problems and dual-mass ejector failure of the early 90 series. Note that a vent kit for the distribution button is available.

Some of the "toast-purists" don't like the "Auto-Toast" (or as it is often called - ToastTronic) feature - saying that the only way to properly control toasting is the cable-actuated manual method (with the reverse button up and to the left).

A hot topic is adding the "Soft lift-up-slow quiet bread carriage" feature (common to later models) to older model toasters. A well-known toast fanatic, Ack J'olsen, created a high-performance toaster by taking the heating elements from a late model toaster and installing them into the classic 70 series. With the "Soft lift-up-slow quiet bread carriage" installed, his toaster, "Bread Beauty", is the subject of frequent admiration.

But current controversy is dogging the high performance toast world. A recently announced combination convection/microwave toaster - the self proclaimed "SUV of toasters" - has loyalists up in arms. Some call it a marketing ploy, others a way to keep the company solvent to support it's core high performance toast development efforts - but all agree the new Coyote toaster is a real dog.

[/tongue-in-cheek mode]

FWIW, Porsche Design has no connection to Porsche AG. They are essentially in the licensing business, farming out their various designs for all range of products, to about a zillion separately contracted manufacturers.

The household appliances have at various times been sold under the Siemens label, later distributed and branded in North America under license by Toastmaster, and now branded as a Bosch product. The toaster is no longer being distibuted in the US, so I guess this qualifies it as some sort of collectors item...if there are such things as "toaster collectors"...

SOME toasters will sell for $250 as long as SOME wrist watches sell for $20,000...or more. Me? I'm still wearing the same seiko I bought almost 20 years ago...because it still keeps excellent time...

Actually I'm not making a judgement on this toaster until I hear some 0 to 60 times.

Living in Munich, I had a F.A. Porsche Designed telephone. It was a big square flat thing with a rotating dial pad.

And I am not ashamed to admit it.

So who else here has had a first hand "F.A. Porsche Design" experience?

Don't forget the Porsche golf clubs! (And you thought a Big Bertha was expensive!)

What about the Porsche shirts, caps, jackets etc. DAMN they are expensive. I considered buying a Porsche summer shirt and perhaps a leather belt with Porsche belt buckle. Then I saw the prices
