Spring cleaning tips?
Winter in NE has finally seemed to turn the corner (and my garage is above freezing) so I've started a few small projects to get ready for the spring. In the process, I've noticed the nooks and crannies are pretty darn dirty (mostly road gunk, etc.).
Any tips for cleaning this type of grime off - what to use/not use, what's worked well for you? Pressure wash? cleaners? Thanks! ![]() |

I'd use a plastic scraper for that mess, followed by a brush with some simple green, then hit it with a rag and a little more simple green.
I have a small garage so I don't get too crazy with caustic chemicals like carb or brake cleaner.

Be excellent to those wires - remove them prior to cleaning and tuck them away. Any time you spend removing gunk from any hot oil-containing item (oil cooler, oil tank, etc.) is time well spent.
As above on removing the gunk. Do this over a tarp and throw the results into the garbage, not your local water system. When done Gumout or similar on the wire contacts and carefully reattach.

In that wheel well, I would schlep it over to the $2 pressure washer, pull the wheel, Gunk it to death and blast away.
These are not girlie girl cars. They can take it. NO for inside the engine compartment. Old school electrical connections. Not so in the wheel wells.

POR15 is awesome if you wanna pull the tank. Spend $20 to hot tank it an put in a new sender/gasket (While you're in there).
Low cost restoration.
