North Carolina Pelican ride update

Hello out there. I wanted to update everbody on the North Carolina mountin ride set up for the 22nd, next Sunday. We had a good response to the first posting, hope everyone is still interested.

Here are some highlights; we will meet at Jim Smolka's place in Hickory at 9 a.m., head to Morganton and up 181 to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Then we will start a Boone loop that takes us across Shull's Mill Road, 194 near Valle Crusis and 221 around the base of Grandfather Mountain. Lunch in Blowing Rock is followed by Hwy 194 from Boone out to West Jefferson after which we will take our different routes back home.

My estimate is that this will make for a nice 6 hour-ish dirve with some good twisty roads mixed with some scenic Parkway stretches. We will have directions to Jim's and route notes put together and available soon through Halm's web site.

Now, I just need to get my car put back together in time...

Tom

Dave, it doesn't matter what you drive, just come join us!

Also, good old BellSouth has taken out the circuit to my web server in the home office. No idea when it will be back up, but it will have the detailed route information I had just added when it dropped.

Having lived in NC for most of my life and raced bikes for a number of years I know those roads well. If you live near that area go on this drive. Incredible scenery and awesome driving conditions. Wish I lived closer... Oh yeah, We Norther VA members are doing a drive the same day. Dave, come join us.

Web Site Back Up

Bell South has been gracious enough to restore service, so “The Drive” web site (WWW.Go-Michael.Com/Drive) is back up and includes specific details for the route.

Also, for anyone coming from the Charlotte area that would like to caravan, we can meet at I-77, Exit 25 in the Target parking lot, 7:50'ish AM and depart 8 AM. There is a Texaco gas station there also in case you need to top off.

Jamie, I lived in Boone for a long time and learned to "drive" on these roads. There are some things you can't learn in driver's ed.

We're looking forward to it, hope your ride goes well that day too.
