defective bilstein?

i posted a few question on another thread but it's a little off topic and i got no traction. so i'm posting a new question here with it's own topic.

i just bought 4 new bilsteins and got around to installing them yesterday (actually the rears the other weekend and the fronts yesterday). i noticed after a test drive that i got a clunk when going over larger bumps or uneven surfaces from the driver side. when i pulled it out i thought it was bottoming out or according to "search" here the collar may have been loose. checked all of that it was fine.

today i pulled it out again and i noticed some play in the piston shaft itself. i didn't get a chance to take a video of it but i found the same thing on an old youtube video. i'm getting the same exact kind of play but about half the amount.

note even with the collar on tight i get about 1-2mm of play when i pull on the piston shaft.

is this a defective unit?

Is that video a bilstein or a shake weight? Joke

Bilsteins for the 68 should come with a spacer that is dropped into the strut before installing the insert. It is about 6mm tall and eliminates the play you are experiencing.

If you don't have spacers, drop an nut about 6mm tall in there before installing the insert.

that was it chuck! i called billstein and they confirmed that anyone know what the material is made of? see it taped on the bottom of the strut insert (this is from bilsteins site).

what i don't get is not only did they NOT include the spacer but no collar wrench either. looking at other posts, some people got them some people didn't.
