Fuchs Jewelry

Ok, I admit it. I'm OCD when it comes to hardware. I have a new set of Fuchs heading my way and I'm obsessing about the details, specifically the tire stems.

Yes, the good 'ol rubber stems would work fine. But then theirs the issue of stem flex at speed, requiring support tabs, blah, blah, blah, and the further you dig, most recommend metal stems.

If you dig deeper, the really cool guys use alloy stems

So, after searching through the major suppliers (Myers Tire Supply, Dill) I found what I wanted, but with a 100 piece minimum...

Haltec H-523MS Light Alloy Valve Stem

After a bit more Google Fuing I struck gold

https://tiresupplynetwork.com/collections/metal-valve-stems/products/h-523ms-light-alloy-valve-stem

No minimum and Free shipping over $25. Yes Please!!!

Prepare to feast your eyes -

Now if I can just find some decent tire weights

Nice!!!

I always liked the looks of the 949 Racing ones. They come in more jewelry-ish color options, too...

Bronze anodized aluminum valve

(Edit/PS)- if you find any light alloy tire weights let us know.....

😉👍

It's actually the opposite problem. Now that lead is evil (illegal) the tire weights are crappy zinc. I've decided I'm not going to obsess over this though. Guys gotta pick his battles, right? 👍

Those are very nice. Years ago, I had new tires put on my 85 Carrera's polished Fuchs. They came back from the tire shop with very nice chrome valves. I still think they look great. I may get a set of those from Tire Supply for my 73 911.

They are nice.

But for those of you who are going to use rubber ones, get short stubby ones from the motorbike shop. They won't flex. The long floppy ones are for wheels with plastic wheel covers and need to be long.

The metal ones tend to scuff the anodising.

These things look pretty cool, but with my luck, I will stick with the old school rubber. I think it is there for a reason. I suspect that a rigid metal stem mounted on a spinning car wheel at highway speed probably doesn't have to strike much mass in terms of road debris to crack or just snap off. A rubber stem can deflect and has a better chance of survival, doesn't require special thought to seal, etc. To each his own.

On the question of weights, what's the consensus on use of Dynabeads for dynamic balancing? I've used them on my motorcycles and they appear to work fine, but not used them on car tires. Opinions on this as an alternative to weights?

EDIT- Never mind, did a search and found some threads on this.

Me llikey. When I click the link, the pics look shiny silver versus the matte / anodized finish in your pics. I'm all about the matte finish. That's just what came when you ordered?

Do you think they'll fit in these 9" Fuchs Evos?...

I bought mine from Myers back in 2018. No minimum was required. They are even scripted Made in Germany. Unfortunately like you when i went back to their site I could not order just 4. thank you for sharing the link.
