Sorting out ride height

Hi -

If like some suggestions on the best way to tackle my uneven ride height issues. I believe the car was always this way but with the new wheels I installed it's much more apparent.

This car is a 1980 SC with turbo flares. It now has a tire diameter of 25.7 inches on 17 inch wheels. The measurements from the ground to fender are as follows:

RF - 25"
LF - 25 5/8"
RR - 24 1/2"
LR - 25"

I have read how changing the front affects the opposite rear corner. That means if I dropped the LF it would raise the RR. Is this correct?

Is there an easy way to figure this all out or is it just adjust, drive, measure, repeat?

Thanks!

Yes, front affects rear and vice versa. Opposite corners too.
Not as significant as the actual raising or lowering, but it does alter things.

Measure again with you sitting on the drivers seat. Might level out if it was corner balanced properly.

I say lower LF to lift RR first.

Just a note: measuring at the fender wells can be fairly inaccurate. Mine were off by more than a 1/2 inch.

You should measure from chassis parts under the car.

Also, taking it to a qualified guy with corner weights after you get close to even measurements. Corner balancing my car made everything work better, brakes, turn in, transitions, and powering out of corners. It's worth it on a 911.

It should be corner weighed and adjusted, preferably with ARB's disconnected.

I bet if you sat in drivers seat, the heights would be very close to each other, the left side might even be lower than the right

You calling me fat?

The car was corner balanced before I bought it. I'll have to get the wife with a bunch of books in the drivers seat to mimic my weight.

haha, or you could get your wife to measure and sit in it yourself

I weigh 100kg and the ride height on drivers side drops 10-12mm with me in the car and only 2-3mm on the passenger side

I think that if you are happy with the ride height, just leave it...

Sicklyscott 03-27-2014 06:04 PM

That's the issue. I'm not happy with the height. Front needs to come down some which I think I can tackle. The rear though scares the hell out of me (mostly from lack of education).

Scott,

Just take the car to Eurotire on rt. 46. Those guys can sort all your issues out. Ask me how I know.

Chris

Thanks bud, I was hoping you'd chime in with a shop recommendation.
