Who's running solid chain tensioners?

I realize it is best suited for race engines but regardless of use, after what kind of hours are you adjusting them? Did you adjust just because or did you see and quantify the slack?

No one?

I'm running them in the race car. I just tore down the engine after 2 years of racing and a couple of DE's. Around 30 hrs. One side was still tight and the other just had a little slack... not much. The timing chains were new when it was all built. I would say that they would not have needed any adjustment. I have asked several builders about the method of tightening them when installing. How much play do you want? They all have said they just get them tight. So... I have no idea about measuring slack, how many millimeters. David

Thanks for the input. I have to flip through my tech references, but I suspect as long as the slack is taken up one doesn't need to make them super tight. Doing so will put too much load on the intermediate shaft and cams.

Too much slack will risk the chain to hop the gears and timing will vary.

The unknown for me is how much stretch we're seeing in the chain. From your response I'm guessing there isn't a much.

I intend to perform periodic inspection so I think I'll be safe to use the solid tensioners on my race car.
