Romove door panel/manual lock

How the hell do you remove the door panel with a manual lock? I feel retarded.

This guy...

Thanks,

if you look carefully, the flat part of the door lock knob can be pried out with a small screwdriver. This exposes a screw that lets you remove the door lock knob. Once off, you can unscrew the circular plastic piece behind it.

Be careful not to mark the small disk. Go slow with a small screwdriver or pick.

When I tried removing the knob it broke. There's a circlip that holds the disk onto the door.

I tried being very careful but the knob broke on both sides. What did I do wrong?

Huh. I don't know how in the heck you broke it like that.

As previously posted, there is a small circular disk that sits in the center of the knob that you're holding (other side of the knob in the picture). Once you carefully pry (using very little force!) the disk out, the screw is exposed. Once the screw is unscrewed, the knob comes off, and then the larger circular plastic trim that surrounds and sits behind the knob should come right off with no prying or force.

Looks like you'll be needing some new bits and pieces - our sponsor has what you need here Porsche 911 & Carrera Panels & Doors - Page 4

Hey Packy, it's nice to see manual winders on a '79. Mine are electric and a PITA to get sorted.

I can't speak to a '79, but on my '87 the larger plastic disc that is behind the knob is threaded. You have to unscrew it just like the screw that holds the knob.

Ah, I stand corrected. I just had the panel off (again! ) last weekend on my '84 and I could swear the larger disc just lifted off. I need to go back in there this weekend, so I'll double check that bit.

testa-rossa, what year is your vehicle?

BTW, just for the record, I hate messing around inside the doors, and I have at least two more trips in to fix door lock issues. Doors are such a pain to mess around in.

In looking at the pic above:

I would guess that the disc is threaded. The two square cut outs I believe are for a tool to aid in unscrewing the disc. It also looks like the plastic has threads in it.
