Valentine 1 false Laser alarm....from and AVALANCHE BRAKE!!!!

On the way to work....I'm driving the stoopid F350 for a commuter car, I have the V1 in it as the 911 is waiting on my 3.6 transplant....and I do speed a "little" in the truck....

I get off the freeway behind this brand new paper plated FUGLEE Chevy Avalanche, rhino coated bumpers, grill covers up the wazoo and NO chrome....about the ONLY thing that "I" like...no chrome......

Anyways....I get to about three feet of his bumper waiting for the red to change and my laser alarm starts sounding.....WTF, who is painting me with Laser when I am dead still?

Well then I remembered a thread on rennlist about LED lights and such set the V1s off.....so I followed the guy and every time he hit his brakes and I was closer than 20 feet the alarm went off....

So be aware....

Z

You know that I think about it, my Passport has rang the Laser alarm a couple of times at stoplights...Very interesting.

There's a blurb about this on the valentine website, I've gotten a bunch of falses from the latest bodied gmc/chevy blazer, and I've heard that BMWs do it as well.

That being the case, wouldn't there be an argument of "your honor, there must have been a chevy blazer doing that 130 going the other way, and he hit his brake lights!"

No Curt....the silliest car since the Pacer was the Gremlin...or did that come first?

Then the Aztec......geez.

Just checked out the V1 site and they say live with it, or turn off the Laser alarm....nothing they can do about it.

Cut and paste frm Valentine....

Red neon is occasionally used for the CHMSL (Center High Mounted Stop Lamp) on new cars. We know of these models: GM Trailblazer and Envoy, the Lincoln Mk VIII and the latest BMW 3-series convertible.

These lights use a neon-plasma light source. The red lens allows red visible light to pass, and also invisible energy near infrared. The source is powered by a pulsating voltage on a frequency that happens to be similar to the repetition rate of legitimate laser-gun pulse trains. In other words, the CHMSLs have an invisible energy leakage that’s nearly identical to the beam used by traffic laser. If we suppress the interference, we’re likely to damage laser sensitivity.

If you’re really bothered by this interference, you can disable V1’s laser reception. You can reprogram V1 yourself. Here’s a link to the instructions on our website: http://www.valentine1.com/lab/mikeslabrpt3.asp

I also noticed this a few months back and sent an email to Valentine. Mike Valentine himself responded. Here is the link with the email attached.

It seems that the only Avalanches I ever see here in So Cal always seem to have variations of the rainbow flag decals stuck on 'em....

Strange isn't it ?

My V1 signals a laser when I use my windshield washer on a sunny day, from the light scatter.

Well, I've only got a Uniden (el-cheapo from SEARS ) and I was following a Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG (Serious hardware) when he hit the brakes and the detector started screaming.

I was a lot further back than 20 feet though. More like 100 feet...

I get false laser warning when ever it wants to. It used to be the sun causing it but I sent it back and they fixed it so now it goes off when ever. It did save me from 2 tickets this week. And in MA that is @ $1000 in surcharges
