How many miles or km do you guys get to a full tank
I went for a long drive today about 100 miles city and 260 hwy so 360 miles to a tank on my 81 targa mind you my gas light came on went to the pump and put. 65 litres in it so I guess I still had 10 to 15 litres left

You are at about half the MPG that the 81 SC delivers.

80L tank.

But at least you got some driving in.

What work have you done to address your idle problems mentioned in previous posts?

My 3.2 Carrera gets a full 300 miles in 100% city driving, far more on the highway.

My only idle problem is when I Start the car it surges for 5 min then goes away and idles normal


I haven't done much as I have some books on order from out host do I can start learning and troubleshooting this
I made a mistake on my original post I will edit I said 260 miles to a tank I meant to say 360 total 100 city 260 hwy

With a clean or new air filter I get about 22-23 MPG but freeway only almost 25MPG.

You have a vacuum leak, check your hoses, probably after 5 minutes the rubber expands and seals the small leak just enough, but over time it will get worse after many expansion and contactions due to heat.

Way better. To get 500 miles you have to drive like a wimp.

You got potential. I am gonna work you real hard. It's going to hurt. But it will be a good hurt. :)

Thanks bob I have checked my vaccum hoses their all good it's a minor problem I'll take it slow as I get familiar with these engines thanks for your willingness to help and I will need it it runs fine after 2-5 min after warm up so in guessing a minor issue I will get to

On road trips I sometimes go 400 miles before I fill up. I usually wait until I am at a good location with fresh gas. Last year coming back from Michigan I waited until I got to my local favorite station to fill up because it is 100% gasoline. I went 490 miles on that tank.

I've got a '74S dual carb race car that gets a solid 15-17 mpg. If I floor it nonstop I can get it down to 10 mpg :)

On the other hand, my half fiberglass '77S gets 28/mpg on the highway going 60 mph in 5th which is very handy for road trips.

60mph is the secret. On my SC, I drive 68 mph (which is a GPS 62mph) and get just over 25.

Plus no tickets.;)

If GPS says 62, and your speedo says 10% higher does that mean you should lower your mpg by 10% as well? I assume the 10% comes from tire size, etc. and affects everything, including odometer? Just asking.

Well, if the speedo is off then yes the odo will be as well. Your theory makes sense, although it is off by 10% at 60mph, it would maybe only be off 5% at 30mph?? though, is that correct? lol.
BUT the odometer would be off a sepecific FIXED percentage.... however I'm not sure how you tell WHAT that percentage would be.... :o

That's a good question. I only use the GPS miles traveled when on a trip as the odo is off as well.

When on a trip, the mile markers are easy to use as a guide. At a true 70mph the odo moves about 9/10 of a mile. I have not checked it lower speeds but I bet IslandHopper is correct in that it is fixed vs. variable. My car has 100k miles on the odo so it probably has 111k-ish true miles - plus or minus a few.

I did take the car on a speed run on the Ohio Turnpike. Slight downhill for about two miles. 138 on the speedo. Talking up a storm at work. Next time used GPS and it was 125mph when 138 was on the speedo. Sigh.............

So the speedo is linear in it's error from my case study of a couple of comparisons against GPS.

Your speedo is probably off as well. It can be corrected by the speedo places. They fix the odo as well. Saying this based on reading the error is common.

Note my 85 MPH speedo was replaced with a 160 mph speedo at the dealer in the way-back.

I get as many miles to the kilometer as I get when I drive my Corolla :D

With that in mind, your has likely LESS than 100 K miles then (probably about 90K if your 9/10 ratio holds true), not more than what your odometer reads. No need to add more than she deserves... ;)

360mls for 65l is quite nice I guess...

with my 79 SC (930.06 engine) I get 440km (about 275mls) when the light goes on and refill aprox 63l.
much city driving involved... unfortunately.
thats about 14l average.

On my 88, I get around 400 miles per tank, 20 MPG +/-

Who cares, the bigger question is how many smiles per mile SPM!

~21 mpg city
~24 mpg highway

My favorite driving is back country roads, where I get about 22 mpg.

With the ginorous tank on the SC, I'll go 2+ weeks without filling up. And then, if the gas price is spiking, you have to swipe your card twice. Yikes!
