Engine support Bar bent

Hi Guys,

I tried to install new engine mounts this weekend and discovered my engine support bar that the mounts bolt up to is severely bent on both sides, almost into an s shape. one side is curled in and the other is curled out to the point I can not line up the mounts any more when I removed the center bolt (which was extremely tight) there was an audible POP when it released. pic attached of the end of the bar. Anybody have an opinion on what caused this?

can it be that the bolts were tourqued so hard (as opposed to the 40 ft/lbs recommended for the Wevos) that the ends curled on install or removal? 101 Projects does warn on this. I did the same mount replacement this weekend and this scared me. I had my engine worked on last winter and I had the same issue, requiring a new cross member. Sorry to see this for you. I think I paid $90 for a replacement, not sure if that is a good deal or not...

Can't believe you were able to fit a camera down there...

I agree with the point above and from experience. If the bolt is really tight it tends to twist the end off the bar. Nothing really wrong, you just need a new one and they're not expensive from Porsche. Or you could buy a lightened RSR one and save 190 grams from the back end.......ask me how I know!

I can't say for sure, I've owned the car for ten years and I never would have known it if I hadn't been bored and decided I'd try to replace the mounts thinking they were original. I can say they were really tight but I don't know if that was from the bent bar or over torqueing.

Thanks Guys, I ordered a used one from DC auto for $60.00. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something more than that.

I just finished putting in the Wevo blacks. Hope you're doing one at a time? Mine was slightly bent so I just grabbed the thing with my hand a bent it to line up. Kinda flimsy. Hopefully both aren't out, so you can just grab and bend, or use some type of leverage... I was jacking the engine up and down to find the sweet spot.

I think mine is bent way beyond straightening. Yes I tried to do one at a time but now they are both out to replace the bar.
