1983 911SC Cabriolet Trunk Light

Hi,

Anyone know how I turn it on ? It doesn't have a pin switch like other SCs.

Thanks !

When the headlight switch is pulled out.....but they rarely work .....

IIRC it is on the tail light or license plate circuit. The bulb is usually burnt out or the wires are pinched where they go under the hinge on the trunk lid. A little bit of testing with test light and you should figure it out.

Just did this job today

I don't know how your set up, but I just did my 76 today and I assume yours should be the same.

The black white wire is constant live and goes up the hinge into the bonnet cavity and connects directly to the globe holder positive pin.

Then there is a brown earth wire from the globe holder to the slide pin in the threaded part of the hinge where you have a hole. When the bonnet is open the slide pin makes earth contact and the light comes on.

That's how the front works, the rear doesn't have a ground plunger. You have to add one....just so the OP knows.

Have you tested the wires to the socket BOTH the ground and power? If no power or ground is bad, it won't work. Any blown fuses? Does your license plate light work?

Here’s a photo of my ’83 cab frunk light, wired as as tassie described. Thumb is pushing on the contact pin switch, so light is out. This light is not tied to the headlight switch circuit.

I may be wrong, but I think that if that brown wire going to the pan head screw on the hinge in your photo were truly grounded your frunk light would be on all the time. As Joe Bob suggests, if ground is bad it won’t work.

Any light if you take a piece of wire and touch one end to the brown wire connector or pan head screw and other end to bare metal in the frunk?
