Help identifying some Brembo calipers
 
Can someone help me identify what Brembo calipers these are. Kit came off a 1984 Carrera.

Once I know what calipers they are I can then start determining what rotors would be needed to match.

Looking at upgrading my SC from Carrera front rotors with Boxter calipers and Carrera rear rotors with Carrera wide M calipers (no p/v)

The fronts look like the large ones used in 993 or 928S4(w/ bleeds/feeds swapped) they would have been black or silver oe(except the rears which if they are off a 964 3.6t were red) they are similar to Big Reds but use pads that are the same length somewhat shorter in height. These are also similar to the 964t/964RS front calipers but have shorter mounting stands. They would want a 32mm thick rotor 304 to 322 or so mm in diameter.

The rears are any of several of the small Brembos, hopefully they were rears and not fronts which would have pistons that are too big and throats that are too wide. If they are rears they have 28/30mm or 30/34mm pistons, the 30/34 are preferred for use w/ those fronts, best of all would be 965 30/34 rears which also have a 28mm throat for use w/ a '78 up 28x309mm 930 rear rotor. The other rears are designed for a 24mm rotor and would need to have the throats clearance to fit the 28mm 930 rotor. The mounting holes appear to have been properly modified to use the 930 rotors

I was hoping you were around today.

A couple of extra questions:
  • Are these different to 944Turbo calipers? Only reason for asking is that I thought they might have been, based on some photos I was looking at (untrained eye)
  • Would Turbo Rotors be suitable - thickness seems to match your suggestions.
  • What would be the f/r bias - by current setup (above) is about 1.54
As always your help is much appreciated.

Yes, 944t used the same calipers as the 964(again water coolers have feeds and bleed reversed from aircooled)

the 944TS used a version of those calipers

for the front 32x304 is what was used on '78 up 930s but for use on a 911 you have to use a 2 piece hat and annulus setup, 930 used thes only for '78-80, they are also available from VCI

bias depends on the rotors used(stock sizes were 304 or 322) and pistons in used in back 28/30 or 30/34.

i don't have that setup in my dB, it'' take a little time to enter it

I ran the #s
for comparison a stock 911 f/r bias is 1.491, stock 930 is 1.579

the above on 304/309 rotors is 1.572, on 322/309 it is 1.678

Looks like the 304/309 rotor option might be best for the target 1.5 for track use.

Just for interest, my Boxter/Carrera setup (no pv) uses Pagit Yellow Boxter REAR pads on the front (slightly shorter height) as you can't get yellow front Boxter pads. Combined with Yellow Carrera pads in the rear I have been very happy with the balance.

It would be interesting to see what the ratio changes to with the slightly smaller front pads.

OK an update is warranted here - rather than a tread just dropping off.

I ended up going with Turbo rotors all round - the front ones are the 78-80 style using the VCI flat hat as suggested by Bill.

Updated the master cylinder to a Turbo one as well.

Using Project Mu pads, which do tend to squeal a lot after extended light braking (traffic)

The overall performance is outstanding - no fade yet, very predictable and consistent feel and a big improvement over the prior setup if Carrera Rotors with Boxter callipers on the front.

Had a small problem with one of the front rotors getting a small warp, but got that machined on the car and now running true for about 2,000km so far.
