Anyone put 996 seats in a Carrera

Picked up a set of 996-2001 seats at a good price and was wondering if anyone had tried to put these seats into a Carrera. Searched a bit and found nothing but I am SURE someone has done this. Thanks for any information. Steve

I know 997 seats have been put in my Carrera. You should be able to install 996 seats.

I put boxster seats in a car before. Same design as 996s

Have to get the older 911 brackets/rails that mount to the floor.

The deal was adapting the rails to fit the seats. Minor DIY fabrication. Doable.

Car is gone and I took no pictures.

Send a message via AIM to blockhed
They can be made to work but are so heavy.

Not a direct bolt-on set-up.......

I also have a pair of 996 leather seats in excellent condition that are being fitted into an '78 SC. It would fit with some modification on the rail/s (brackets). Even if you use the power seats mechanism assembly with the seat/s, a simple fabrication of brackets/rails are indeed required to mount the 996 seats to the 911 frame (up to '89).

I have a set of boxster seats in my '75. I was able to modify the boxster seat rails to make them bolt in. The seat bottoms sit a little higher than stock, but that wasn't a problem for me.

How did you adapt the driver's seat electrical system to the Carrera system? What a mess! Thanks for any help. The brackets were the easy part and the passenger electrics were a piece of cake. Steve

I installed a set in my 90 C2 and had to bypass the seat "brain" on the drivers side to get the electrics to work and as noted they do sit higher

Did the seat rails/holes in the 997 (or 996) line up with the air-cooled chassis bolt holes, is it that easy? or did you have to use adapters? I saw a set of 997 seats for sale the other day and was wondering about using them.

On the front of the rail you just bend the seat rail bracket, the Rear requires a small hole be drilled so the seat bolt can be secured to the chassis bolt holes

There are adaptors available but they are close to $200 bucks for a set and I decided to just drill them, I have since sold the 996 heated seats and put in 996 Sport seats..same method

The problem is not the mounting or the electric on the passenger seat, it is the driver seat electric that, from going through the last 7 years of PP posts, has not been solved ( at least by most mortals on the PP website). What I am going to do is to make a panel that will have 4 DPDT switches to control each motor directly. There is a post where that was done with success. The switches on the driver seat cannot be used due to the fact it is actuated with a 5V power source somewhere located in the 996. I have a few ideas to try but the DPDT switches seem the most likely, cheapest and easiest solution. I did make the brackets to fit the existing mounts on the Carrera and can shoot you picts and dimensions if you would like. Steve
