New to the 911's but have had aircooled cars all my life, recently purchased 1980 911 SC coupe and am really enjoying her! here's a couple of pics from the ad on craigslist when I first saw her. I have the same front valance on my targa as yours, however it does not have a grill,

do you have more pics of the front, as I'm looking at doing something with mine to fill in the "space":

here's one of the front Boss, kinda dark but the grill is just some polished alum 1/4" angle on a couple of vertical straps with some wire mesh expandable metal sandwiched between. my SC has been lowered almost 1.5" thinking I might put the stock one back on, makes it difficult to drive in to alot of places, but it sure does make you look like your ready for a day at the track.;)
