My name is Lou and I am new to the board. I will be buying 82SC Targa and need to have it checked out. Afriend of mine bought it at auction (drug seizure) in 1990. It has 40K miles and has been sitting for 3 years. I put a battery in and car started right up, blew a lot of smoke, I let it warm up and took for a spin. Car accelerated through all gears without any hesitation, st wheel vibrated at 65. I can get car for 8k which seems fair. A friend told me to take car to dealer and pay them to check out car, I don't mind paying for this service but not sure if dealer is place to go. I live in bergen county in northern NJ. I would appreciate some feedback
thanks Lou If message is posted twice, sorry |

Hi Lou,
It might be a little bit far to travel, but I had a PPI done on my 78sc at BodyMotion in Ocean, NJ (That would be about 1 hour 20 minutes from you... due South off of exit 105 of the GS Parkway) Cost was about $150.00. They provided me a detailed list of the cars problems along with their approximate price to fix. They also prioritized the fixes from the most urgent to the "fix it when you want to" ones. I have also had work done there...have to wait sometimes for an appointment and they can be a little pricey, but since I was new to Porsche Ownership when I first went to them I really appreciated Mike Bavaro's help. He was very patient and provided a great education. The shop there seems really geared to the racer ("not" ricer) he's races a GT3 if I am not mistaken. Since he preps alot of cars for racing he ends up with a lot of parts in excellent condition that us "street folk" can use if and when a used part is desirable. They have a website at: http://www.bodymotion.com/ where you can find lots more information if you so desire. Hope that helps! Larry |

Another idea is to contact the Northern New Jersey Region PCA.
Their new member liason is Chuck and Barbara Dougherty There email address is: c.o.dougherty@worldnet.att.net even if your not a member (yet) I am sure that they would be happy to point you in the right direction. (sorry I couldn't help more, good luck!)larry |

Hi Lou,
Go to Deman Motors http://www.DeManmotorsport.com/ in Nyack. Rick is the owner and he is a great mechanic. Get in touch with me and I will go up there with you. My car needs a little bit of work, so I will be heading up. Marc Weintraub |

Nyack is close enough and a nice ride I will call tomorrow to set up appointment. Probably will not be able to go this week so it will have to be next week. I will let you know when I am going. Lou |
