1973 Window regulator

The passenger side window regulator is dead! I called Pelican Parts and I emailed customer service (No response) and I cannot find out what I need to do or what parts I need to buy to fix it.
I did a search but I got very confusing info.
I have the window jammed in the closed position.
Has anybody had and fixed this problem?

First, you need to take the door panel off to see what is wrong. You can probably get the window down by looking/feeling the mechanism. It could be the window is bound up in the window frame track. After you get the window down, it's a simple operation to take it out (You have to remove the scrapper & trim on the top of the door also) and either fix it or replace it. If it needs replacement, look for a good one in the "for sale" portion of this site.

I have had it out and had many attempts at repairing it. The rail that the glass fits in is bent and broken in a few places and is beyond repair. All the used ones that I found are not much better. The rail is very fragile and that is why it has been discontinued and not available. I heard that there is a substitute part that requires other parts to be modified but all the information that I got is incomplete. The sales person at Pelican said it cannot be fixed and no new parts are available!

Yes, move to the newer style, which is lighter and works better. Porsche has a TSB on it, and the dealer can give you a copy.

Sorry I don't know what a TSB is!

Technical Service Bulletin.
The new style regulator is miles better than the original. A worthwile change. You need the regulator, the rail that is fixed to the door and the window support.

The newer style window regulator needs to have a few new mounting points drilled. I updated my drivers side a few years back. The new regulator is a bit expensive. The local dealer was very good about making a copy of the bulletin for me so I could install it.
