ideas for stylish/reduced cell phone fix - anybody?
Hello!
After a radio-less season 2013, i got myself one (read here) Now as my idea was to not only have some music, it was also to be part of use in combination with an iPhone with its navigation and iPod function. So I have a short Y-cable that connects the iPhone to the radio and the power source (cigarette lighter) with a belkin micro-charger, hardly visible, as it does not stick out. But now the "problem": how to fix the iPhone "nicely"?! - it MUST be somehow UP to view the display in navi-use. - I do not dare use a vent-clip-in of fear to breake the vents cross bars (FRAGILE). - so I use a rather short window mounted fix, spoiling the whole dash optics :-( - NO DRILLING HOLES up front - MUST be clean reversible! Any idea? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1396617308.jpg |
Here's an option: PCAR MOUNTS
|
iPhones seem to fit pretty well into the opened ashtray, especially with a rubber cover on.
|
Put it in your pocket :)
|
There's a guy who makes an Audi vent mount that works pretty much like the pcar mount at a much lower price.

First, I have an under dash panel from here:
Underdash Cover 911 Speaker System the solution to unsighlty wires ! Then I mounted one of these: iOttie Easy One Touch Universal Car Mount Holder for iPhone 5, 4S, Smartphone You can see it in post #10 here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/747527-tirwins-interior-resto-project.html I was mocking up moving the A/C controls to the ash tray location so ignore that stuff in the pic. |
I mounted a very small motorcycle amp under the dash and ran a female outlet to the radio delete plate. I just never used the radio anyhow.

This is the one I have, v5, lightweight, simple, reasonable cost

PCAR MOUNTS for the win... I have one and I love it.... You can mount anything to it. I heard he is updating it to have a magnetic mount to attach to any product as well..
The owners name is Bill and he stands by his product. I talked to him for an hour on the phone when I had a simple questions about it. He is a true enthusiast like us. I know he is on the Rennlist board as well. http://pcarmounts.com/wp-content/upl..._b-940x342.png |
No Idea on the I phone holder but the radio looks great and is appropriately subdued. Good find I will be ordering one, so thanks for the heads up.

Here is the reply: "this radio will not work in North America, different frequencies." This is unfortunate as this is the best looking radio I have seen in years for a 911. |
I love this solution....have used one for years. just a tiny control unit shows. |
Here you go. I have one of these in each of our cars and I love them. They are designed for a cd slot, but the dash and knobs get in the way on our cars. If you back off the set screw, which locks it into the slot, you can slip it right into the gap below the radio. $23 on Amazon-

euhm... I dont have CD-slot in the Kienzle Radio.
And even if I did, I'd not want to block the radio with that. |
Yeah, my point was that it won't fit into a cd slot on a 911 (even if you had one). That's why mine is where it is. It does spin 180 degrees clockwise and clears the radio controls on our Subaru and Mazda.
I'm not into any sort of semi permanent/ permanent install, this pops right out. Good luck in your search. |
OK, thanks!
