Tune up time for the 993

I am posting this in both forums.

Can I do this myself. I have the tools. I have the patience and time. I just dont have the experience. I will need some guidence, is anyone experienced with this?

Personally, no. I hear the valve adjustment is easy ;)

I am sure I have come across a website somewhere which details the steps involved for this, but I don't remember where...

It might have been on Rennlist somewhere (but make sure you come back!).

I've got my shop manual on order (used my PCA bucks) and, when it arrives, I've got a number of things planned. Oil change, air and pollen filters, belts, plugs, clutch pedal kinematic lever update, brake and clutch fluid change, etc. I think I can do a lot on my 993, so, I think I will!

Wayne, you've got to use those megabucks from your best-selling book sales to get yourself a 993. Then, I'll be looking for your 2nd edition with the new 993 projects section!

I thought 993's are hydraulically operated. Therefore, no valve adjustments are required.

Brian,

Here in Melbourne, resale value of late-model 911s (and other exotics) is dictated by a number of factors. One of them, is the insistence on a Full Service History, with all work documented by known, professional outfits. It means buyers will feel more comfortable about dropping $50-80k on a used Porsche.

I don't know if it's the same in MA, but I'd avoid doing some work on it simply to keep the resale (and the car's desirability) up. That way, you can ask top dollar for it next time you decide to sell.

That's right, no valve adjustments. Works for me! :D

This is the do-it-yourself pages of the p-car.com website the bb80sc mentioned above. I printed out a 1/2 dozzen projects that I am reading up on for my new to me 96 cab. I am starting with tranny fluid change, the some others. I think you will like that site. Let us know how (and which) projects you do.

"Change the Pollen Filters......"

Here in northern VA, the pollen is as big as grapefruit!:D

Everything on the 993 engine is hard to get to. You have to move lots of sheetmetal, ducts, hoses, wires, etc. Plan on it taking a whole day to change the oil and plugs your first time. And allow for alot of cursing. But it is doable. A 3.2 Carrera is much easier by comparison.
