Hi all, ideas/opinions 2L cases whats possible?
I have been following the forum from a distance for some time but need a hand so thought I would get involved. I'm just about to start some a rebuild of "Armstrong" my '69 T and really want to create something really cool and individual and hopefully I can pick the brains of some of you guys to help me out.
Starting point will be the engine and would like to keep the cases so what do you guys think is the ultimate I can get out of (or in) these? I have a 915 box which should cope with whatever could be thrown at it. The engine case is stamped 22649. Any ideas or opinions gratefully received! |

I'm guessing but I would think a 2.7 with twin plugs and an ITB EFI setup like Megasquirt would be a nice motor... then again you can bolt in a stock 3.2 and be better off, rebuild the stock motor "stock" to retain the value.. which is high.

You can bump the displacement up to 2.2, but I'd agree that keeping it original would be the way to go. Those early magnesium cases are not as strong as the later ones, and the trend is more to preserving originality where possible.

I have played with the idea of putting in a later engine but I really want to keep the car complete and really just make it a better version of itself.
I saw that in Magnus Walkers 68R car which he put in a 2.5st and that looked pretty cool especially as I believe (but could be very wrong) that the ST was more of a kit which was added to cars rather than a car so it is almost appropriate tuning. I have a motorbike that I customized and by that I mean paint, one off exhaust the whole thing. It looks better than stock and I actually worry about it getting stolen because I made it how I want it and couldnt replace it. I want to feel that about this little 911. |
