Door bar question

This might be a dumb question - please don't flame me!

I've been doing some research and it appears door bars were introduced in '73.

Can you install door bars in early doors that don't have bars? Since the answer to that question is probably no, following is my next question:

Is a later bar-equipped door plug-and-play into an early car? Are the mounting points, latch striker, mounting holes for the interior panel, window frame mounts, window tracks, etc. all the same? Can only specific later doors be used? If so what years?

Thanks. Much appreciated!

Take care,

It might be easier to swap doors if you are in a lwb car. My 78 930 had bars added when it came into the US per the requirements at the time.

Thanks for your replies guys! Talking about a later LWB, no specific year though. Hypothetical!

I kinda figured the interior panel mounting holes would be different. What about the hinge and latch points? In other words, can a later door be bolted on only needing normal latch adjustment? And what about the mounting points for the handle mechanism, interior handles, and window frames?

I have a 73. It did not have door bars.

I swapped the driver's door for one from an SC. Plug and play, other than mirror mounting. (I also run RS door panels so not sure about the stock interior panels)

my '84 did not have door bars originally. Some steel tubes were inserted when it was federalised in '84 in Florida.

The door has all the holes, stamps, etc to allow fitment of a '73 and earlier inner door panel.
