The stiffer bar will only matter on the settled height. It would probably settle slightly higher, but not much.
You don't really have a lot of choices on height. The splines determine your finish height for you, unless you have adjustable spring plates. you might get minor height differences depending in torsion bar diameter. But you have to work with what you have. Torsion bars, just sitting there, are pretty stiff. Regardless of size. |
I have read that when gluing the new bushings on using super glue you have @ 5 secs. to work them in place before it sets up.
I have cleaned up the plates and have been test fitting to see how snug the new bushes fit. I am using the Neatrix bushings and they are a tight fit. Question----Will the glue act as a lubricant so they slide on easily? If it takes more than 5 seconds I don’t want the glue drying when they are only half way on. I haven’t tried seating them all the way as I don’t want to have issues getting them off to glue in place. Has anyone done this? used super glue and found that they go on easier because of the slipperiness of the glue? I thought about rigging up some type of homemade Press to install them quickly. |
Yes, I just did this. I could not get my bushings on by hand and was prepared to beat them on quickly. However as soon as I put the glue on and started pressing, they went all the way on without even trying. It will act as a lubricant for about 5 seconds....then glue. I don't think you will even need any tools. Mine were ER brand though.

Thanks a930pilot.
I was thinking that might be the case. Did you apply glue to both the inside of the bushing and the spring plate tube, or to just one component? |

What I did the second time was first of all have the bushing cover handy, in case I needed to evenly apply force to the bushing, Then I slid the bushing on so that only the part that would be under the bushing showed, slathered the glue on the shaft, and shoved the bushing on. No messing around with twisting to even out the distribution of glue or anything like that. It went on smoothly and stuck fast. |
RDM,
Sorry, but I had to laugh. It was one of those covered up laughs that you know you shouldn't do. It wasn't a long laugh, it was a short burst, but i did laugh. I appologize. I hope you had a chuckle as well afterwards. What a pain in the butt. On the sunny side, your experience will be helping others to not make the same mistake. I would have never thought to slide them on half way. I will be taking your advice. Thank you for sharing. |
I didn't laugh then about it, nor in the eight days I had to wait for a replacement, but I've healed and become a better man because of it.
Seriously, I come here to get smarter and to laugh. No problem. |
